Seán Heuston (1891-1916) was a member of the Fianna Éireann who was executed for his role in the Easter Rising in 1916. He was the Officer Commanding of the forces holding the Mendicity Institution, now among several places throughout Dublin named after Heuston. After several days of fighting, Heuston surrendered and was ultimately court-martialled and sentenced to death. He wrote several final letters in the day before his execution before being shot by firing squad in Kilmainham Jail on 8th May 1916.
