Portrait of Samuel Lover

Samuel Lover (1797-1868) was an Irish songwriter, poet and composer, most famous for composing songs such as The Angel’s Whisper, Molly Bawn, The Four-Leaved Shamrock and Rory O’Moore. Born in Dublin, Lover was the secretary of the Royal Hibernian Academy before moving to London in 1835 to compose music for a series of stage works. He would later be a co-founder of Bentley’s Magazine alongside Charles Dickens.
