John Francis Taylor (1853-1902) was a lawyer originally from County Sligo. He is believed to have been a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood in his youth, but would become a journalist, writing for the Freeman’s Journal, and would run a law practice in his native Connaught as well as Dublin. In 1896, he would publish an authoritative biography of the great Gaelic Irish commander Eoghan Ruadh Ó Neill.
