
Francisco de Cuéllar (1562 – c. 1606) was a Spanish naval captain when he sailed with the Armada in 1588, following the failure of the Armada’s expedition, he was wrecked on the coast of Ireland. He spent some time living among the people in Connacht and in Ulster, before escaping to Scotland, and from there to Flanders, where he wrote an account of his experiences. Following this he continued his service in the Spanish military and fought in wars throughout Europe.
