Dion Boucicault (1820-1890) was an actor and playwright hailed as one of the finest playwrights of his generation in the English-speaking world. Born in Dublin to an Anglo-Irish family, Boucicault would move to England and then the United States. The 1864 play The Wicklow Wedding features a version of the famous 1798 ballad The Wearing Of The Green, which is its most famous rendition.
