Portrait of Alice Milligan

Alice Milligan (1863-1953) was a poet, writer, playwright and activist involved in the Gaelic and Irish Literary Revivals. Born to a Methodist family in County Tyrone, she would form Shan Van Vocht, a monthly magazine based in Belfast alongside fellow activist Ethna Carbery. She was friends with many of the prominent Irish nationalist figures of the day, including Thomas MacDonagh, James Connolly, Roger Casement and Pádraig Pearse.
