Seán Mac Ambróis (1793-1873) or John McCambridge was a native of Cushendun, County Antrim, born to a wealthy Irish-speaking Presbyterian family. He is best remembered for his song ‘A mBeidhinn Féin i n-Áird í Cuain’, which was republished by Eoin MacNeill in the Gaelic Journal in 1895. The song is from the perspective of a native of the Glens of Antrim who has since emigrated, longing for a return home to Ireland. The year that the song was composed does not appear to be known, although it is possible it was written during or after the Famine.
