Michael Joseph McCann (1820/24-1883) was a Irish nationalist poet, journalist, and national school teacher by trade. He contributed verse to The Nation, his most famous work, The Clanconnell War Song, would be better known as O’Donnell Abu. O’Donnell Abu remains to this day the station ID signal of RTÉ, and has been covered by various artists, most famously however by Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers.
