Mary Brigid Pearse (1884-1947) was the youngest of the four children born to James and Margaret Pearse. Most well known for being the younger sister of Pádraig Pearse, she was a musician, a teacher, an actress, and an author. She was particularly capable on the piano and harp. She taught the harp to the boys at Scoil Éanna, and won several prizes for her playing. Despite writing novels, children’s stories, plays, short stories, and articles, she unfortunately did not meet with a great deal of literary success and much of her work has not been published since her death. The sole exception to this is her book ‘The Home Life of Pádraig Pearse’, which was republished in 1979 on the 100th anniversary of her brother’s birth.
