From The Life And Times of Aodh O’Neill by John Mitchel. The letter has been rendered by the transcriber from archaic to modern English.
Florence Mac Carthy, whom he (O’Neill) had made chief of Clan-Carrha, seems to have been placed O’Neill’s greatest reliance: –
Our commendations to you, Mac Carthy More, I send shortly onto you according to our trust of you, that you will do a stout and hopeful thing against the pagan beast; and thereupon our army is to go into Munster.
And since this cause of Munster was left to you (next under God) let no weakness or imbecility be found in you; and the time of help is near you and all the rest.
From Dungannon, the sixth of February, 1601.
